Description

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Design Specialist to join their dynamic team. In this role, you will work directly under the guidance of the Regional Discipline Lead - Process to deliver high-quality engineering design services. Your primary responsibility will be to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will be expected to coordinate the design, produce design documents, and ensure that all health and safety regulations, specifications, and standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop cost-effective design layouts that meet the specification requirements and ensure smooth construction and commissioning processes.
  • Consider all associated costs, including design time, material costs, erection costs, and potential impacts on other disciplines when delivering cost-effective design solutions.
  • Utilize standard practices to maintain competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals Department.
  • Adhere to procedures and processes that foster the ongoing development of the department.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, and review of departmental procedures and processes.
  • Write and update efficient procedures to support the smooth operation of the department.
  • Ensure designs are coordinated with other internal and external disciplines for the overall benefit of the contract.
  • Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
  • Deliver exceptional customer satisfaction by ensuring all parties involved in the contract process are supported effectively.
  • Maintain a personal development plan to ensure continuous professional growth.
  • Assist in supervising and developing staff within the department.
  • Help create and maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Minimize waste in all departmental activities, contributing to sustainability efforts.
  • Ensure that designs take full account of environmental considerations and health and safety requirements.

About You:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in the design and specification of complex process systems, including Clean Water Treatment Works.
  • Expertise in creating Process Flow Diagrams, Mass Balance Calculations, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • In-depth understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
  • Experience leading and managing teams in designing water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Membership in a professional institution (Chartered Engineer or nearing chartership status).

Desirable:

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline (Engineering HND minimum; Engineering degree preferred).
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Strong ability to rationalize designs and develop cost-effective plant layouts.
  • Solid general knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management within water treatment.
  • Ability to process large amounts of data and present technical proposals clearly and confidently.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and design software.
  • Full driving license.
